How to Unprotect Drawings in Autocad 2018
SealPath Enterprise allows you to protect files with sensitive information by encrypting them and limiting the users who can access them and the access permissions. Protection is persistent and are fixed with the files, ensuring that the file is protected regardless of the location and device on which it is opened. Additionally, it is possible to monitor access to protected files or revoke access if we suspect that there is a risk of data leakage.
Protect your AutoCAD files with SealPath's technology
SealPath Security Sandbox technology allows you to go beyond the protection of Office files, PDF, images, etc. and protect files that do not have native IRM (Information Rights Management) or E-DRM (Enterprise Digital Rights Management) support, such as CAD drawings. SealPath Security Sandbox manages the protected files by controlling the actions that the user can take on the protected document.
This technology is available not only for SealPath Enterprise solutions but also for organizations that use Azure Information Protection or Microsoft Information Protection to protect and classify their sensitive information.
In this blog article, we are going to show you how SealPath protection for AutoCAD works in a practical way and through a video.
In the case of SealPath Enterprise, the user must have the SealPath Desktop software to protect AutoCAD documents and the SealPath Security Sandbox software to open them in a controlled manner. In the case of external users who do not need to protect but rather consume protected designs, it is necessary to have SealPath Lite and SealPath Security Sandbox.
SealPath Security Sandbox is easy to use
SealPath Security Sandbox is a lightweight application, about 7MB, that does not require administration permissions to be installed, and it is designed to work on networks where there are restrictions regarding the installation of software. For internal users, SealPath Security Sandbox can be installed unattended through System Center (SCCM), Group Policy Objects (GPO-Group Policy Objects) or any other software distribution tool.
In the case of organizations that work with Microsoft Information Protection, the requirements are to have an AIP/MIP identity, and the AIP Client installed (Classic Client or UL-Unified Labeling), in addition to SealPath Security Sandbox.
In the case of AutoCAD, the supported applications are AutoCAD 2018-2021, with toolsets such as Civil, Map 3D, Mechanical and Electrical, AutoCAD LT, DWG TrueView and Design Review. The 32- and 64-bit platforms are supported on computers from W7 to W10 and Windows Server platform from 2008 to 2019.
The operation, as can be seen in the video, is very simple:
- It is enough to protect the file with a policy and it will be under the control of SealPath.
- By double-clicking on the file, it will open with AutoCAD if the user has access permissions. If not, it will inform you that you do not have permissions.
- An information bar is shown to the user indicating the permissions they have on the design: Only view, view and edit, etc.
- Once opened, you will be able to perform the allowed actions and if you cannot, for example print the design, you will be informed of this by pop-ups on your desktop.
SealPath allows you to protect files with extensions .DWG, .DWF, .DWS, .DXF, .DWT. Not only does it allow the protection of individual files, but SealPath is the only CAD file protection solution that allows you to protect files with references to other files (file assemblies).
The permissions that can be assigned to a CAD file are: View, Edit, Export (STEP, PDF, Save As, etc.), Copy and Paste, Print (Plot, Batch PLOT, 3D Print) and Add Users. It is important to mention that in the case of Copy and Paste, the user can do on the file itself if they have access permissions, but if they have limited Copy and Paste, they will not be able to export content or paste content in other files external to the one they have opened.
Also, depending on the permissions SealPath allows importing files with external extensions (eg CATIA, Pro / Engineer, SolidWorks, etc), or exporting files to other formats (.DGN, .EPS, .IGS, etc.).
In addition to controlling access permissions, it is possible to apply expiration dates, access control by IP, opening permissions in offline or online mode, etc.
In addition to AutoCAD files, SealPath allows the application of digital file protection in Siemens Solid Edge, AutoDesk Inventor, Dassault Systemmes Catia and SolidWorks.
