Hi,

Since you are using a new receiver to a old keyboard there might be firmware difference, suggest to check with the new keyboard and the trans receiver and check if it works fine or not.

I would suggest you to check which driver version of keyboard you are using if using a old one. I would suggest to reinstall the latest version and check if it works or not

If the issue still persists you cancontact hardware support and check if it helps

Hope this helps,

I didn't purchase a new keyboard, as this would have cost considerably more. The computer isn't connecting to the keyboard at all, it isn't listed under device manager. I have the newest Intellitype installed on the machine. I think the problem is that the transceiver is operating on a different frequency in the 2.4 Ghz range and the keyboard is listening to a different frequency. would it be possible to change the transceivers broadcast frequency? Or am I completely off base here?

They should be on the same 2.4ghz range, but if you have other prodcuts that run on 2.4ghz (i.e. cordless phone, router). I dont know of any way to change the frequency on the transceiver.

Hello,

Due to the age of this issue, it would be best to create a new thread for this.

Doing so will avoid any confusion between your issue and that of the original poster.

Best regards,

Klaus,

Sadly I did not get this fixed, and I will most likely never buy a wireless set from Microsoft again. I took apart the keyboard and the mouse looking for some sort of switch to select the channel it received on, but to no avail. The only way to get a full wireless mouse and keyboard set is to buy it as the set (~$70). This should NOT be the only solution to a cheap broken usb transmitter. Next time, I will be sure to get a wireless set with connect buttons on them.

You could have contacted Microsoft Hardware Replacement Support and got it replaced. They have a 3 year warranty on hardware, I believe. You can send it back and they will have it replaced. I just said the USB transceiver is not working anymore and a new order is provided to me to send me a new one.

Broken/Defective products

For fastest replacement of broken or defective products call warranty directly: For US warranty support, call (800)-360-7561. For Canadian warranty support, call (800)-933-4750. Or see this KB article for more information: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/326246

I have same problem.

I purchased on second hand a microsoft wireless mouse 5000 that came with receiver, it works perfectly.

More later I purchased (on ebay) a microsoft comfort keyboard 5000 without receiver, only desktop, hoping that my receiver will works with desktop (same brand and model will work!!)

But it doesn´t work.

I think with knowledge it was posible reprogramming receiver. It has connection points inside for this purpose...

There is a way to re sync.  I just did it after advice from MS Support.

1. Power off your computer.

2. Remove the transmitter and the batteries from the mouse and keyboard.

3. Power on your computer.

4. After the system boots plug in the transmitter.

5. Put batteries back in the keyboard and the mouse, the devices will automatically re sync with the transmitter.

It worked perfectly after 3 months of trying to get my keyboard to re sync.  I had gone to a PS/2 keyboard and was about to buy another brand.

Finally, I found someone in tech support who knows what they are talking about.

Good Luck, All
